Short consonant digraphs are 2 or more consonants that work happily together to make a special sound.

 

c and h  together  = ch

t and c and h together = tch

n and g  together =  ng

 

ch and ng are consonant digraphs

tch is a trigraph (3 short consonants together)

qu works like a consonant digraph

(q is a short consonant and u is a short vowel but together they work like a short consonant digraph).

 ​

                 The short vowels in 2 are coloured orange.

                The short vowels in 3 are coloured orange and the

                  short consonant digraphs, magenta.
